The San Francisco 49ers claimed defensive tackle Jordan Jefferson off waivers from the Jacksonville Jaguars on 27 Aug. The 23-year-old, a 2024 fourth-round pick, logged 12 tackles and one sack in eight games for Jacksonville last season. His arrival lifts San Francisco’s active roster to 12 defensive linemen, suggesting a corresponding move may be needed to balance the 53-man squad. With the waiver period complete, the club began re-assembling its practice squad. Rookie receiver and kick returner Junior Bergen, the only one of the 49ers’ 11 draft picks who failed to make the active roster, intends to re-sign once he clears waivers. Defensive end Trevis Gipson, defensive tackle Sebastian Valdez, linebacker Curtis Robinson, safety Derrick Canteen and defensive lineman William Bradley-King have also agreed to practice-squad terms, according to league and team sources. No San Francisco players were claimed by other teams, allowing the front office to retain the bulk of a draft class and several veterans it waived a day earlier. The reshuffling leaves the 49ers with added depth on the defensive front and flexibility heading into the final phase of preseason preparations.
