San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch said on Wednesday that wide receiver Jauan Jennings asked to be traded "a while ago," but the club has no intention of granting the request. “He asked for it and we’ve moved on. We’re not doing that,” Lynch told reporters. Jennings, 28, has not practiced since leaving the field on July 27 with a calf injury and remains uncertain for the Sept. 7 season opener against the Seattle Seahawks. Lynch said the receiver is “making progress,” yet added the team is “hopeful but not sure” he will be ready. The absence comes as Jennings seeks an upgrade to the two-year, $15.3 million contract he signed in May 2024. With the receiving corps thinned by injuries, San Francisco signed veteran wideout Marquez Valdes-Scantling and brought back Russell Gage to the 53-man roster. The 49ers also reported improving health elsewhere: offensive linemen Dominick Puni and Ben Bartch, cornerback Upton Stout and edge rusher Yetur Gross-Matos are all trending toward availability for Week 1.
