The Chicago Bears have signed quarterback Tyson Bagent to a two-year contract extension valued at $10 million and worth as much as $16 million with incentives, the team said Wednesday. The deal will begin after the upcoming season and keeps the 25-year-old under contract through 2027. Bagent joined the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of Division II Shepherd University in 2023 and has served as the club’s primary backup since then. He started four games as a rookie, going 2-2 and finishing the year with a 66.2% completion rate, 870 passing yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions. Chicago moved quickly after Bagent’s strong preseason performance on Sunday, when he completed 13 of 22 passes for 196 yards and a touchdown in a 38-0 win over the Buffalo Bills. With an average annual value of $5 million, the contract places Bagent among the NFL’s highest-paid backup quarterbacks and signals the Bears’ confidence in his role behind 2024 No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams.
