The Cincinnati Bengals have reworked All-Pro edge rusher Trey Hendrickson’s contract, replacing the final year of his deal with a one-year, $30 million agreement for the 2025 season, multiple reports said on Aug. 25. The structure amounts to a $14 million raise and vaults the 31-year-old into the league’s top tier of defensive earners. The accord ends a months-long standoff in which Hendrickson skipped most offseason workouts, requested a trade and threatened to hold out of regular-season games while pressing for a multi-year extension. Cincinnati had offered a three-year, $95 million package that reportedly contained no guaranteed money after the first season, a sticking point for the player’s camp. By ripping up the old deal without adding extra years, the Bengals preserve cap flexibility while allowing Hendrickson to test the open market in 2026. The four-time Pro Bowler, who has recorded 35 sacks over the past two seasons, is expected to return to practice immediately and be available for the club’s opener against the Cleveland Browns on Sept. 7.
