The Cleveland Browns intend to take the uncommon step of keeping four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster, according to a report by beat writer Mary Kay Cabot. Veteran Joe Flacco has already been named the Week 1 starter, with Kenny Pickett, fifth-round pick Dillon Gabriel and fellow rookie Shedeur Sanders all slated to remain on the squad when final cuts are due Tuesday. Head coach Kevin Stefanski used Saturday’s preseason finale against the Los Angeles Rams to showcase the depth chart. Flacco opened the game before Gabriel engineered an 11-play, 86-yard, 1-minute-38-second drive capped by his first touchdown pass of the preseason just before halftime. Sanders, easing back from an oblique strain that sidelined him in the previous game, was expected to close out the rotation as the club gathered final evaluations. Carrying four quarterbacks would give Cleveland added insurance after recent injuries across the league and within the franchise, but it would also require trimming depth at another position. The Browns must submit their official roster to the NFL by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
