The Tampa Bay Buccaneers will carry wide receiver Chris Godwin on their 53-man roster rather than placing him on the physically unable to perform list, according to multiple reports citing ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The move means the 29-year-old can resume practicing in Week 2 and avoids a mandatory four-game absence, though he is still expected to miss game action until at least October while completing his recovery from last season’s broken ankle. Godwin re-signed with Tampa Bay in March on a three-year, $66 million deal that includes $45 million guaranteed. Before the injury he had 50 receptions for 576 yards and five touchdowns in seven games. With fellow wideout Jalin McMillan headed to injured reserve because of a strained neck, veterans Mike Evans and first-round pick Emeka Egbuka are expected to headline the receiving corps when the Buccaneers open the season against the Atlanta Falcons on Sept. 7. Separately, Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said he is “confident” All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons will play in the Week 1 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles despite the player’s ongoing hold-in for a long-term extension. Parsons, 26, has skipped training-camp practices but continues to attend meetings; he is scheduled to earn $24 million in 2025 under his fifth-year option.

Chris Godwin update The good news is that Godwin is going to avoid the PUP, which means the Bucs believe he will be able to return before Week 4. This is despite the fact that he hasn’t returned to the practice field, and it sounds like he won’t be ready to start practicing https://t.co/cKx33Mtro4
The Buccaneers plan to activate WR Chris Godwin from the PUP list and place him on the 53-man roster to start the season, per @AdamSchefter. Godwin (ankle) is still unlikely to play until October and is expected to begin practicing in Week 2. https://t.co/phKugbNiEl
