The Jacksonville Jaguars held out rookie receiver-cornerback Travis Hunter from Sunday’s preseason game against the New Orleans Saints because of an upper-body injury, the club said. Hunter, the No. 2 pick in the 2024 draft and a projected two-way contributor, was one of 12 Jaguars sidelined for the contest at the Caesars Superdome. Head coach Liam Coen called the move precautionary after Hunter also missed Friday’s practice. The former Heisman Trophy winner at Colorado had played 10 offensive and eight defensive snaps in his Aug. 9 preseason debut against Pittsburgh, catching two passes for nine yards. Jacksonville’s starters made a brief appearance before yielding to reserves. Quarterback Trevor Lawrence completed six of seven passes for 43 yards and found second-year wideout Parker Washington for a seven-yard score, while running back Travis Etienne logged two carries. The teams traded points the rest of the way and finished in a 17-17 draw. Defensive tackle Arik Armstead (back) and linebacker Dennis Gardeck (knee) also sat out, along with offensive linemen Anton Harrison and Cole Van Lanen and cornerback Tyson Campbell. The Jaguars are off Monday and expect to reassess Hunter and the other injured players when practice resumes Tuesday.
