Lions Cut Hendon Hooker, Elevate Kyle Allen to Backup QB

The Detroit Lions have released quarterback Hendon Hooker, ending the 2023 third-round pick’s 18-month stint with the club. Head coach Dan Campbell said the move will allow the former University of Tennessee standout “a fresh start” after he spent his rookie season rehabbing a college knee injury and saw limited preseason action this summer. With Hooker’s departure, veteran Kyle Allen moves up to the No. 2 role behind starter Jared Goff for the 2025 season. The decision clarifies Detroit’s quarterback depth chart as the team finalises its 53-man roster ahead of Week 1.
