🔥 NEW: NFL star Odell Beckham Jr shared on X that he’s “still happy with our decision” to take his NFL contract in Bitcoin. https://t.co/feheoHCbeJ
NFL wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. said he remains “happy with our decision” to convert his 2021 Los Angeles Rams salary into Bitcoin after the cryptocurrency climbed to a record high of roughly $120,000 on 14 July. Beckham received about $750,000 in November 2021 and immediately converted the paycheck when Bitcoin was trading near $64,000. At today’s price his stake is worth roughly $1.4 million, almost doubling in value and outperforming a hypothetical investment in the S&P 500, which would have grown the same amount to about $1.18 million over the same period. The wide receiver’s three-year-old wager underscores how digital-asset gains can quickly eclipse conventional market returns when crypto prices surge, though the opposite was evident when Bitcoin plunged below $20,000 in 2022 before rebounding to new highs this year.
