Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford practiced on Monday for the first time this training camp, ending weeks of uncertainty caused by an aggravated disk in his back. A video released by the team showed the 37-year-old in full pads taking the field at the club’s Thousand Oaks facility. Stafford had missed every practice and both preseason games while the medical staff monitored the back problem, and an earlier attempt to work out on Aug. 11 was abandoned after he "didn’t feel great," according to the club. His return comes less than three weeks before the Rams open the regular season at SoFi Stadium on Sept. 7 against the Houston Texans. During Stafford’s absence, head coach Sean McVay relied on newly signed backup Jimmy Garoppolo and second-year passer Stetson Bennett. Bennett started both exhibition contests, throwing for 324 yards, three touchdowns and one interception, but the Rams have repeatedly said the offense is built around Stafford, who threw for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns last year. Elsewhere around the league, Green Bay quarterback Jordan Love resumed practice after a left-thumb injury, and Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson is expected back later this week as he rehabs a hamstring strain, according to coach Kevin O’Connell. The flurry of returns signals that several key NFC playmakers are on track for Week 1.
