Nigerian security officials have arrested two top leaders of Jama’atu Ansarul Muslimina fi-Biladis Sudan (Ansaru), an Al-Qaeda-linked jihadist group. The arrests, confirmed by the Nigerian National Security Adviser, followed a targeted operation conducted between May and July 2025. The detained leaders, Mahmud Muhammad Usman and Mahmud al-Nigeri, are linked to a 2022 attack on a prison in Abuja that resulted in the temporary release of hundreds of inmates. The United States has commended Nigeria for the arrests. Separately, in Chad, Muslim, the son of Boko Haram founder Mohammed Yusuf, along with five other terror suspects, was arrested for allegedly leading a militant cell.
