OpenAI has partnered with Aker ASA’s data-center unit Nscale to build “Stargate Norway,” a 230-megawatt artificial-intelligence data center in Narvik, marking the first European site in the company’s global Stargate program. The facility is designed to accommodate about 100,000 Nvidia GPUs by the end of 2026, with additional capacity planned in subsequent years. The partners said the complex will run entirely on Norway’s renewable hydropower and benefit from the region’s cool climate to improve energy efficiency. By placing heavy compute infrastructure in Europe, OpenAI aims to reduce latency for regional customers and meet rising demand for generative-AI services while limiting its carbon footprint.
