
Unidentified gunmen opened fire on a Gilgit Scouts checkpoint in the Hadar area of Chilas, a district of Pakistan’s Gilgit-Baltistan region, late on 28 Aug. local time. The raid left at least one security official of naib subedar rank dead and injured as many as seven others, according to hospital and security officials. One of the wounded is reported to be in critical condition. Authorities said the assailants fled after the brief firefight. The site was cordoned off and a search operation was under way on Friday. No group immediately claimed responsibility, and officials have not disclosed a possible motive.
