The government of Pakistan has implemented multiple increases in petrol prices over recent weeks, with the latest hike raising the price by Rs 5.36 per liter for petrol and Rs 11.37 per liter for high-speed diesel, effective for the next fortnight. Earlier, the petrol price was increased by Rs 8.36 per liter. These adjustments have also led to a rise in kerosene oil prices. Following the petroleum price hikes, transportation fares, including those of passenger, express, and mail trains operated by Pakistan Railways, have been increased across various cities. The price surges have caused public concern and dissatisfaction in major cities such as Karachi and Peshawar. The Finance Division officially announced the recent price changes. Political figures have criticized the increases, attributing them to entrenched interests and systemic issues within the country. The petroleum margin increases have deprived citizens of relief amid rising inflationary pressures.
