Peruvian authorities transferred former President Martín Vizcarra from the presidential prison to a common prison in Ancón, located in the northern part of Lima. This move occurred while Vizcarra remains under five months of preventive detention amid ongoing corruption charges related to his tenure as regional governor in 2014. The transfer prompted criticism from Vizcarra's family, who described it as an unprecedented abuse. After five days in the common prison, Vizcarra was returned to the prison designated for former presidents. Meanwhile, a Peruvian court is set to review Vizcarra's appeal against his preventive detention. Separately, there is a report questioning whether Ecuador might have to pay $200 million to former President Abdalá Bucaram.
