Philippine Senator Bam Aquino has called for the country’s entire national budget to be recorded on the Polygon blockchain, telling participants at the Manila Tech Summit on 28 August that on-chain accounting would let citizens trace “every peso” of government spending and strengthen public oversight. Aquino’s proposal would build on the Department of Budget and Management’s existing blockchain platform, which already logs documents such as Special Allotment Release Orders and Notices of Cash Allocation on Polygon through local provider BayaniChain. The senator said formal legislation has yet to be drafted but argued the initiative could make the Philippines the first country to place its full budget on a public ledger. BayaniChain welcomed the remarks, noting that immutable blockchain records can enhance accountability even if the technology is “not a silver bullet against corruption.” The announcement highlights growing interest among Asian governments in using distributed-ledger systems to improve transparency in public finance.
