Itch.io Requires Asset Creators to Disclose Use of Generative AI Tools Like ChatGPT and Midjourney

Itch.io, an indie distribution platform, has implemented a new requirement for asset creators to disclose their use of generative AI in their projects. The platform aims to enhance transparency, allowing buyers to be informed about the origins of the materials they are acquiring. This initiative is intended to filter out lower-quality AI-generated content, with creators being asked to self-classify their asset pages by indicating whether they have utilized tools such as ChatGPT and Midjourney. The move reflects a growing concern within the gaming community regarding the ethical implications of generative AI in content creation.

Generative AI answers are amazing, but often unfair, in that they use "shoplifted" content. We are working to make genAI results better and more fair by sharing revenue with great content that has been sourced and used with explicit permission. More on how below.. https://t.co/pE0uNRXK4J
