Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator, has issued a warning to online platforms regarding their responsibilities under the forthcoming Online Safety Act. This warning comes alongside an open letter addressing the use of generative AI and chatbots. Ofcom emphasized the need for tech companies to ensure compliance with safety regulations, particularly in light of recent incidents where chatbots have imitated individuals such as Brianna Ghey and Molly Russell. Additionally, the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has recommended that AI developers and providers enhance protections for job seekers' information rights, highlighting concerns over potential misuse of AI tools in recruitment processes.
