Senator Elizabeth Warren is calling on the CEO of MOHELA, a major student loan servicer, to testify before the Senate Banking subcommittee due to servicing failures that hinder borrowers' repayment. Warren aims to address obstacles faced by millions of borrowers, especially public servants, demanding accountability and relief. The move comes after reports of MOHELA misleading student borrowers, exacerbating their debt burdens and denying them access to debt relief. Warren, along with other lawmakers, also seeks to end the practice of offsetting Social Security benefits to pay off defaulted student loans, which has been detrimental to seniors and individuals with disabilities.

Tens of thousands of seniors who rely on Social Security aren't getting their full checks after defaulting on their student loans. It pushes many into povertyโand it's wrong. I'm leading over 30 lawmakers calling for an end to this devastating practice. https://t.co/xCKNXVcoZT
It's cruel & unconscionable for the federal government to take folks' Social Security benefits to pay off defaulted student loans. That's why @SenWarren & I are urging federal agencies to stop this harmful practice that has been devastating seniors & people with disabilities. https://t.co/HhZJq716j6
Today Iโm joining @SenWarren and Dem colleagues calling on the Biden admin to finally stop offsetting Social Security to pay off defaulted loans that has been crushing seniors and the disabled for too long. Enough is enough https://t.co/e46c8CGQdQ
