Elie Schwartz, head of a commercial real estate investment firm, was sentenced to 87 months in prison for orchestrating a $62.8 million investment fraud scheme targeting CrowdStreet investors. Separately, Matthew Lane, a 19-year-old student at Assumption University in Massachusetts, has agreed to plead guilty to federal charges related to hacking and cyber extortion. Lane admitted to hacking into the computer networks of two U.S.-based companies, including PowerSchool, one of the leading education technology firms, and extorting them for ransom. His actions resulted in the largest known theft of children's personal data in the United States, compromising millions of records containing sensitive information about children and teachers.
