
Russian authorities are intensifying measures against fraud and illegal activities, particularly in the telecommunications and financial sectors. The Russian Federal Communications Agency (Roskomnadzor) is considering requiring telecom operators to block international calls by default, while also exploring a ban on voice calls through messaging apps to combat fraud. Concurrently, the Central Bank of Russia has mandated that banks suspend client transactions involving digital rubles for two days if fraud indicators are present. Additionally, the Central Bank is collaborating with Rosfinmonitoring and financial institutions to develop a platform for centralized reporting of suspicious financial activities. This initiative aims to target illegal crypto over-the-counter (OTC) trading and enhance the identification of non-resident individuals opening accounts. The crackdown on fraudulent activities is expected to escalate, with reports indicating that around 10 million Russians transferred funds to flagged accounts last year. Meanwhile, Apple is facing criticism for removing independent media apps from the Russian App Store, a move it claims is necessary to avoid a complete service suspension in the country.
