The San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SF SPCA) will waive adoption fees for all animals on Saturday, Aug. 23, in a bid to encourage adoptions and ease crowding at its Mission District shelter. The city-run San Francisco Animal Care & Control is running a parallel promotion, suspending fees through Aug. 24. The agency said it currently has an unusually large number of dogs and puppies awaiting placement. Oakland Animal Services is also at capacity and has joined the weekend push, highlighting dogs such as “Bob” that have lingered in the shelter. All three organizations say fee-waiver campaigns typically increase adoptions by double-digit percentages and help free space for incoming animals.
