Manchester City said centre-back Rúben Dias has signed a new contract that keeps him at the Premier League champions until June 2029, with an option to extend for a further 12 months. The agreement supersedes a deal that had been due to expire in 2027. The 28-year-old Portugal international has made himself a mainstay of Pep Guardiola’s defence since arriving from Benfica for about £62 million in 2020, helping City secure four successive league titles as well as the 2023 Champions League, FA Cup and Club World Cup. Extending Dias’s stay follows the long-term renewals recently handed to striker Erling Haaland and manager Guardiola, underscoring the club’s effort to lock in its core squad for the rest of the decade.
