Inter Miami settled for a 1–1 draw against bottom-placed D.C. United at Audi Field on Saturday after fielding a largely reserve lineup that excluded the injured Lionel Messi and several other regular starters ahead of next week’s Leagues Cup semifinal. Jackson Hopkins put the hosts in front in the 13th minute, converting a looping pass from Matti Peltola for his second goal in as many matches. D.C. United, already out of postseason contention and missing suspended striker Christian Benteke, kept Inter Miami at bay for the rest of the first half despite conceding the bulk of possession. Substitute Baltasar Rodríguez, making only his seventh MLS appearance, leveled in the 64th minute with a right-footed volley from the edge of the area after a Rodrigo De Paul corner skipped through the box. The 22-year-old Argentine’s first league goal preserved a point for Miami, which also introduced Luis Suárez and Sergio Busquets in the second half but could not find a winner. The result leaves Javier Mascherano’s side at 13-7-5 and fifth in the Eastern Conference on 46 points, eight behind Supporters’ Shield leaders Philadelphia Union with nine matches remaining. D.C. United, now 4-16-9 and winless in 11 games, is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.
