Tottenham Hotspur have reached a full agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Netherlands international Xavi Simons for a fixed €60 million (£51.8 million). The 22-year-old attacker completed his medical in London overnight and has signed paperwork on a contract running to June 2030, with an option that could extend the deal to 2032. An official announcement is expected later on 29 August. Spurs accelerated negotiations after receiving encouragement from the player’s camp and from Leipzig, which had authorised Simons to travel to the United Kingdom to resolve his future. Sources close to the talks said Tottenham were intent on avoiding another late transfer reversal and moved quickly once Chelsea, long considered favourites, failed to submit a matching bid. Leipzig, who bought Simons outright from Paris Saint-Germain in January for an initial €50 million, will realise a sizeable profit, while PSG are in line to collect a percentage of the fee under a previously agreed sell-on clause, according to reports in France. Simons leaves Germany with 22 goals and 24 assists from 78 appearances in all competitions.
