Apple on Wednesday began streaming its six Apple Music radio stations on digital-radio platform TuneIn, marking the first time the company has distributed the live channels outside its own app. The arrangement immediately opens Apple Music 1, Apple Music Hits, Apple Music Country, Apple Música Uno, Apple Music Club and Apple Music Chill to TuneIn’s estimated 75 million monthly listeners on smart speakers, mobile devices and in-car entertainment systems worldwide. Apple executives said the partnership is intended to expose the broadcaster-style programming to audiences beyond the Apple ecosystem and convert some of those listeners into paying Apple Music subscribers. A link inside TuneIn directs users to sign up for a free Apple Music trial. “We’re able to bring that experience to even more people, extending beyond the Apple ecosystem,” Apple Music co-head Rachel Newman said in announcing the move. The push comes as Apple seeks to regain ground lost to Spotify in the streaming market. Apple Music’s share of U.S. music subscriptions slipped to 25 % at the end of 2024 from 30 % in 2020, while Spotify’s climbed to 37 %, according to MIDiA Research. Apple began discussing the tie-up with San Francisco-based TuneIn late last year, people familiar with the talks said.
