GPT-3.5 Generative AI Boosts Developer Productivity by 26.08%, Study Finds

A recent study has revealed significant impacts of generative AI on software developer productivity. The randomized controlled trial, which utilized the older GPT-3.5 powered Github Copilot, involved 4,867 coders from Fortune 100 firms. The findings indicate a 26.08% increase in completed tasks among developers using the AI tool, with a standard error of 10.3%. Notably, less experienced developers demonstrated higher adoption rates and greater productivity gains.
