Reid Hoffman Tests AI Using Replit to Clone LinkedIn with a Single Prompt, Producing Functional Prototype

Reid Hoffman, co-founder of LinkedIn, recently tested the capabilities of AI by asking it to clone his company using the AI-powered development platform Replit. The outcome was a surprisingly functional prototype generated from a single prompt, showcasing the growing power of AI in software development. This experiment highlights a shift in the coding landscape, where tools like Replit are automating coding tasks, potentially altering the future of programming professions. As AI tools evolve, the necessity of traditional coding skills may diminish, prompting discussions on the future of learning to code.

AI just cloned LinkedIn—with a single prompt. @LinkedIn co-founder @reidhoffman asked Replit’s AI to “clone LinkedIn”—and it delivered a working prototype. One idea. One prompt. One powerful reminder of where AI is headed. As AI tools like Replit Agent evolve, even coding may https://t.co/2lSzqw9VTP

I’ve been vibe coding a basic language learning flash card app for the past week on @Replit — Most UI/design is solvable through prompts, but getting the app to actually function (ie. go past 3 cards) is nearly impossible. The experience feels like magic until then though!
