Code fragments uncovered in recent test builds of Samsung’s One UI 8 show software tailored for the company’s first tri-fold smartphone, provisionally called the Galaxy Z TriFold. The firmware enables a true three-way split screen—letting users run three full-size apps side by side—and introduces “App Trio” shortcuts that open preferred app combinations with a single tap. The leak also points to revamped cover-screen mirroring that can spread up to three home-screen pages across the device’s interior panels, as well as task-bar and edge-panel controls optimised for the larger, three-section display. These features are expected to roll out publicly as part of One UI 8.5. Hardware specifications cited in the same code and in supply-chain reports include a 9.96-inch OLED display formed by three phone-sized panels, a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, a titanium frame and a triple-lens rear camera array. Industry sources indicate Samsung is targeting an October 2025 unveiling, with pricing around €3,000, positioning the device firmly at the top of the premium segment. Samsung confirmed earlier this month that a tri-fold handset will ship before the end of the year, having first teased the form factor at January’s Galaxy S25 launch. The newly surfaced software details suggest development is on schedule and that the company aims to differentiate the device through advanced multitasking rather than hardware novelty alone.
