Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency, working alongside international partners, has killed at least 10 Al-Shabaab fighters—including senior commander Abdullahi Ganey—in a series of operations across the Hiiraan, Middle Shabelle and Galgaduud regions over the past three days. Security forces also destroyed an explosives-laden pickup truck, several other vehicles and multiple weapons caches, according to government statements. Separately, the Somali National Army’s elite Gorgor Commandos conducted a sweep in Cumar Beere and neighbouring areas of Lower Shabelle, dismantling roadside improvised explosive devices planted by the militant group. Officials said the raid was part of a broader campaign to safeguard transport corridors and prevent planned attacks on civilian centres. The latest actions underscore Mogadishu’s intensifying counter-insurgency effort, which Somali authorities say is being bolstered by closer cooperation with the United States and other international partners.
