NASA’s Stennis Space Center honored more than 20 employees at an onsite ceremony on Aug. 13, recognizing contributions that range from major procurement savings to critical engineering advances supporting the Artemis lunar-exploration program. Marvin Horne, acting administrator for procurement, received NASA’s Outstanding Leadership Medal for creating an integrated contract management office that unites Stennis, Michoud Assembly Facility and Marshall Space Flight Center operations, generating significant cost efficiencies for the agency. Mechanical engineer Jared Grover, retired operations specialist Tim Pierce and retired propulsion expert Barry Robinson were awarded the Exceptional Service Medal for long-term technical and operational contributions to rocket-engine testing and facility management. Thermal-systems expert Richard Wear earned the Exceptional Engineering Achievement Medal for work that enabled the use of liquid natural gas propellants and expanded commercial testing at Stennis. Eight employees secured the Exceptional Achievement Medal for initiatives such as improving cost-reporting accuracy by 55 percent and saving $20 million on a consolidated maintenance contract (budget analyst Alison Dardar) and cutting software-licensing costs by an estimated $85 million (procurement attorney Cary Tolman). Four early-career engineers and safety specialists were recognized for roles in Space Launch System testing, and two additional staff members received the Silver Achievement Medal for completing multimillion-dollar infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
