BBVA has launched a campaign aimed at Banco Sabadell shareholders to convince them of its takeover bid (OPA). The bank's president, Carlos Torres, emphasized that the offer is not hostile and invited Sabadell shareholders to engage in dialogue. In response to regulatory concerns, BBVA has proposed measures to ensure continued credit access for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and committed to not closing Sabadell's 41 business offices. The Spanish competition authority, CNMC, is scrutinizing the bid due to potential risks to SME credit and market competition. Catalan business associations, Foment del Treball and Pimec, are also opposing the takeover, citing concerns over its impact on SMEs.
