Spain continues to confront one of its most destructive wildfire seasons in recent decades despite the easing of a prolonged heatwave. Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez warned on Tuesday that the country still faces "difficult hours" ahead in battling the fires, which have ravaged a record area of land across the Iberian Peninsula. The heatwave, which lasted 16 days, has subsided with temperatures dropping, but the wildfires remain a critical challenge. In response to the severity of the situation, Sánchez announced plans to declare a state of emergency next Tuesday for the regions affected by the forest fires.
