Consensys, the parent company of MetaMask, has acquired Web3Auth, a web3 wallet infrastructure provider, to enhance the user experience of MetaMask wallets. The acquisition aims to address a major risk in self-custody by improving seed phrase management, as many users fail to back up their seed phrases, risking loss of access to their funds. Web3Auth's technology enables wallet creation and recovery through familiar web2 methods such as social logins and two-factor authentication, facilitating easier access and onboarding for users. This integration is expected to accelerate web3 adoption by embedding wallets more seamlessly and providing developers with reliable infrastructure. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
