Joe Lubin, Ethereum co-founder and CEO of Consensys, has revealed that his company is in discussions with sovereign wealth funds and banks from a major country regarding the development of infrastructure within the Ethereum ecosystem. These talks involve both Layer 1 and Layer 2 solutions, with the aim of building institutional infrastructure on Ethereum. Lubin made these comments during an interview on the 'FOMO Hour' podcast, where he also discussed SharpLink Gaming's recent announcement of plans to establish a $1 billion Ethereum-denominated treasury. Consensys recently led a $425 million investment in SharpLink Gaming to support this initiative, and Lubin now serves as Chairman of SharpLink's board. SharpLink's treasury strategy will differ from those focused on Bitcoin accumulation, as it intends to actively deploy ETH through staking, restaking, and DeFi at prudent risk levels to generate yield. Following the announcement, SharpLink's stock rose as much as 922% over the past month, despite recent volatility. Lubin described Ether as the 'gold standard in trust' and suggested that an ETH-driven decentralized supercycle may be emerging, with growing institutional interest in Ethereum both as a platform for building financial infrastructure and as a strategic asset.
