S&P 500 Falls 0.9% to 5,981; Dow Sheds 306 Points in Second Straight Decline

U.S. equities declined for a second straight session on Tuesday, with all three major benchmarks finishing in the red. The S&P 500 slipped 51.88 points, or 0.86%, to 5,981.23, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 305.89 points, or 0.72%, to 42,209.20. The tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite fell 175.08 points, or 0.89%, to 19,526.13. Tuesday’s retreat extended the previous week’s sell-off. On Friday, 13 June, the S&P 500 had fallen 1.21%, the Dow 1.90% and the Nasdaq 1.42%. The two-day slide has erased more than 2% from each index, underscoring continued investor caution as the market struggles to regain momentum.
