










On December 19, 2024, major U.S. stock indices experienced significant declines, marking one of the worst trading days of the year. The S&P 500 fell by 2.95%, the worst performance since August 5, while the Russell 2000 dropped 4.4%, its steepest decline since June 2022. In addition, the Nasdaq 100 decreased by 3.60%. Notably, 96% of large-cap stocks declined, with 60% of these stocks down over 10% from their six-month highs, the highest percentage since November 2023. The equal-weighted S&P 500 is currently in its worst drawdown of the year at -6.9%. Furthermore, only 19% of S&P 500 members are above their 50-day moving average, a new low for 2024, with 70% of these members hitting a one-month low. The Russell 2000 ETF finished down 9.5% from its intraday high on November 25, and Russell 2000 futures have entered correction territory, indicating ongoing volatility in the small-cap sector.
