U.S. stocks showed a mixed performance on Monday, with the Nasdaq leading gains. The Dow Jones closed down 75.52 points, or 0.17%, at 43,369.47, while the S&P 500 unofficially closed up 20.42 points, or 0.35%, at 5,891.04. The Nasdaq unofficially closed up 102.19 points, or 0.55%, at 18,782.31. Earlier in the day, the S&P 500 had opened little changed at 5,871.14, and the Nasdaq was up 0.1% at 18,706.60. By mid-day, the S&P 500 was up 0.6%, the Nasdaq up 1%, and the Dow up 0.1%. The Russell 2000 also showed gains, rising 0.8%. The S&P 500's rise marked its first gain in three days, recovering some of the sharp slide from last week, closing up 0.4%.
