St Lucia’s Julien Alfred underlined her sprint dominance by defending her Diamond League women’s 100-metre crown in Zurich on Thursday, clocking 10.76 seconds. Jamaica’s Tia Clayton finished second, while Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith took third in 10.94 seconds. In the men’s 100 metres, former world champion Christian Coleman edged a photo-finish to claim the trophy in 9.97 seconds. Earlier, Jamaica’s Ackera Nugent captured her first Diamond League title by winning the women’s 100-metre hurdles in 12.30 seconds, with home favourite Ditaji Kambundji equalling the Swiss record at 12.40 seconds for the runner-up spot. Britain also celebrated a breakthrough in the women’s 800 metres, where Georgia Hunter-Bell set a personal best of 1:55.96 to finish second. Japan’s Haruka Kitaguchi placed sixth in the women’s javelin with a throw of 60.72 metres, almost four metres shy of her season best.
