Home Depot reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $45.28 billion, up 4.9 percent from a year earlier but slightly below Wall Street forecasts. Adjusted earnings slipped to $4.68 a share, missing analysts’ consensus of $4.71 and marking the retailer’s first simultaneous miss on revenue and profit in more than a decade. Comparable sales rose 1.0 percent worldwide and 1.4 percent in the United States, extending a three-quarter streak of growth but undershooting expectations. Management reiterated its full-year targets, including roughly 1 percent comparable-sales growth, about 2.8 percent total revenue growth and an operating margin near 13 percent. Chief Executive Officer Ted Decker said demand continues to shift toward smaller, cash-funded home-improvement projects, while higher borrowing costs are delaying larger renovations. Executives added that professional-contractor business remains resilient and that deferred major projects could revive when interest rates ease. Chief Financial Officer Richard McPhail said some imported products will face “modest” price increases because tariff rates are higher than the company anticipated in May, reversing earlier guidance that prices would largely hold steady. Approximately half of the retailer’s merchandise is sourced domestically, lessening the overall impact, McPhail noted. Investors looked past the earnings shortfall, sending the shares up about 3 percent in Tuesday afternoon trading.
