A series of large-scale ransomware attacks have targeted multiple healthcare providers and companies across the globe. In the United States, Consulting Radiologists and Formosa Plastics USA have been compromised, with the latter losing 1.2 TB of data. Consulting Radiologists had 70 GB of data exfiltrated. In Australia, MediSecure, an electronic prescription provider, suffered a significant data breach, prompting calls for urgent meetings to assess the risk to patient data. The Qilin ransomware group is responsible for several attacks, including on Italy's FIAB SpA on May 3, 2024, and Vietnam's Shyang Shin Bao Group, which has more than 10,000 employees. The Australian government has convened peak intelligence and security officers in response to the attacks.
