Google has announced a significant restructuring of its finance team and other departments as part of a strategic shift towards artificial intelligence (AI). This restructuring includes an unspecified number of layoffs and the relocation of some roles to global hubs such as Dublin, India, and Mexico City. Alphabet CFO Ruth Porat communicated these changes in a memo to employees, emphasizing the company's focus on AI investments. This move marks Google's second major round of layoffs this year. Additionally, the restructuring involves the creation of a new AI-focused Platforms and Devices group, which includes the Android, Chrome, and Pixel teams, overseen by Rick Osterloh. This move is part of Google's broader effort to streamline operations and enhance collaboration within its teams.
