In Utah, a recently enacted 'bathroom bill' aimed at restricting transgender individuals' access to bathrooms has led to unintended consequences. The state set up an online form to collect reports of violations, but the database connected to this form was left unprotected and publicly accessible without password or authentication. This security oversight was quickly exploited, as within just 72 hours of the form's launch, nearly 4,000 hoax reports were submitted, primarily consisting of memes and trolling. Utah Auditor John Dougall criticized the legislature for the aggressive nature of the law and expressed frustration at being made to act as a 'bathroom monitor.'
