Play in the Wimbledon men’s singles final between Italy’s Jannik Sinner and Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz was briefly stopped on Sunday after a spectator’s champagne cork flew onto Centre Court as Sinner prepared to serve. The incident occurred early in the second set and drew boos from the crowd. Chair umpire Alison Hughes used the public-address system to remind fans, “Please do not pop champagne corks as the players are about to serve.” Similar warnings had been issued earlier in the tournament after corks disrupted other matches, underscoring the All England Club’s struggle to balance tradition with on-court protocol. The distraction did little to unsettle Sinner. The 23-year-old resumed play and went on to defeat defending champion Alcaraz, securing his first Wimbledon crown despite the unexpected interruption.
