The US Open announced its 2025 draws on Thursday, setting up a demanding title defence for both reigning champions. Men’s world No. 1 Jannik Sinner, who lifted his maiden Grand Slam trophy in New York last year, begins against Czech qualifier Vit Kopriva and could encounter Britain’s Jack Draper in the quarter-finals before a possible semi-final with Alexander Zverev. Second seed Carlos Alcaraz, fresh from his Cincinnati Masters victory, faces a powerful opening-round test against American Reilly Opelka. If he advances, the Spaniard is projected to meet 2021 champion Daniil Medvedev in the fourth round and the in-form Ben Shelton in the last eight. Novak Djokovic, aiming for a record-extending 25th major, opens against 18-year-old Learner Tien and sits in a quarter that includes Taylor Fritz. On the women’s side, Aryna Sabalenka starts her title defence against Rebeka Masarova, with Italy’s Jasmine Paolini lying in wait in a potential quarter-final. World No. 1 Iga Swiatek draws Colombia’s Emiliana Arango and could meet U.S. Open champion Coco Gauff or returning two-time major winner Naomi Osaka in the semi-finals. Gauff begins against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic, while other notable first-round matches include Victoria Mboko versus two-time Slam winner Barbora Krejcikova and Venus Williams against Karolina Muchova. Main-draw play at Flushing Meadows starts on 24 August.
