The Thai government has launched an 18-month pilot program called "TouristDigiPay" that enables foreign tourists to convert cryptocurrencies, including Bitcoin, directly into Thai baht for local spending. This initiative is part of a nationwide regulatory sandbox set to begin in the fourth quarter of 2025 and is developed in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance, the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), and the Ministry of Tourism. Tourists will be able to use QR code payments through e-money service providers, allowing seamless crypto-to-baht transactions without the need for U.S. dollars. The program includes Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements and spending limits. This move represents a step toward mainstream adoption of cryptocurrency in the travel sector and positions Thailand as one of the first countries to integrate digital assets into its tourism economy.
