Brazilian jiu-jitsu great Marcus “Buchecha” Almeida has signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship and is scheduled to make his promotional debut against Slovakia’s Martin Buday at UFC on ABC 9 on 26 July in Abu Dhabi’s Etihad Arena, according to people familiar with the agreement. Almeida, 35, compiled a 5-1 mixed-martial-arts record with ONE Championship, ending all five of his victories inside the first round—four by submission and one by TKO. A multiple-time ADCC and IBJJF world champion, he left the Singapore-based promotion after completing his contract last November, citing frustration with inactivity. Buday, 32, enters the three-round heavyweight bout on a two-fight winning streak after decisions over former champion Andrei Arlovski and Uran Satybaldiev, improving his overall mark to 15-2, including 6-1 in the UFC.
