The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) confirmed that its Instagram account was hacked on the evening of January 29, 2025, to promote a fraudulent memecoin. The unauthorized post, which was up for over an hour, suggested that the UFC was launching a new cryptocurrency, urging fans to 'get ready to own the legacy' with the promise of 'precision and strength' in one coin. The post included a crypto wallet address and directed followers to a website where the scam coin could be purchased. The hackers profited approximately $1.4 million from the scam, which saw the token's value surge to an $11 million market cap before crashing by 97%. They sold 40% of the total supply, causing the token to spike 44,367% in just 41 minutes on the Solana platform. The incident is part of a broader trend of high-profile social media accounts being compromised to promote cryptocurrency scams.
