Testimonies presented at an FTC workshop included that of Kayla Lovdahl, who was placed on hormones at age 12 and underwent a mastectomy shortly after turning 13, despite having undiagnosed autism and unaddressed sexual trauma. Another testimony came from a detransitioned woman who underwent a double mastectomy at 14, emphasizing the irreversible nature of such medical interventions performed on minors. The FTC's inquiry aims to hold clinics and doctors accountable for what some describe as deceptive and abusive practices. The investigation also follows scrutiny of Dr. Rachel Levine, former Biden administration health official, with subpoenaed records suggesting she pressured the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) to remove age limits on gender treatments for minors.
