U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) conducted a four-day operation in Connecticut, named "Operation Broken Trust," resulting in the arrest of 65 undocumented immigrants. Among those detained, 29 individuals had been convicted or charged with serious crimes including kidnapping, assault, drug offenses, weapons violations, and sex crimes. The operation targeted what ICE described as "egregious offenders" and was part of efforts to enforce immigration laws in sanctuary jurisdictions. One high-profile detainee is Kilmar Abrego Garcia, identified as an MS-13 gang member involved in human trafficking and domestic violence, who was taken into custody shortly after his release from jail. ICE and federal authorities emphasized the removal of dangerous criminals to enhance public safety. Additional arrests include individuals involved in illegal fencing operations in Las Vegas. The Department of Homeland Security stated that the removal of such gang members contributes to national security.
